Fruits Basket 8 - To erase with your own hands what you love

Damn, this episode was heavy. We know the cliffhanger of the last episode. Tohru went to the Souma house and got her little talk with Hatori. He says that normally her memory would be erased, but instead of ordering so, Akito even permitted her to live with the cursed ones. She should leave. The Souma family is dark, it’s mysterious and cursed. Tohru is shocked by what he said, and Momiji shows her the garden.

They talk a bit about Hatori. His left eye is almost blind. He had a lover, Kana. She even found out about the curse, but she smiled and said she didn’t care. They were even planning to get married. But they needed permission of Akito. Akito got mad, so mad, that he hurted Hatori’s eye. But even so, Hatori didn’t blame Akito. Kana blamed herself. She got ill, even so ill, that Hatori erased her memory. To erase what you love the most is the most difficult thing ever, but even so, Hatori couldn’t watch her torn into pieces. Kana left, Hatori cried. Somehow it made me think of a song: Beauty of the Beast from Nightwish. After listening that song, you can understand Hatori’s torn soul even more. Yes, his soul is torned, but he doesn’t express himself, so he stays cold, so he has nothing left to be sad about. So his dream of Kana won’t melt away.

Tohru started to cry as well, for the sake of Hatori. Because the one that needs kindness the most, is Hatori self. He was just worried about her, and she thinks it’s all too sad. Momiji leaves to get her something to drink.

Hatori comes in the screen. He has heard all what she said, and he apologizes because he was out of line. Everyone in the Souma family is precious to Tohru, and she would never give it up. Kana must have thougt the same way. Tohru trips, and Hatori caught her, and transformed in this:

Cute, isn’t he? He was supposed to transform in a dragon, but in the English culture it’s a seahorse. In the Japanese culture, it’s a baby dragon. Only some creatures are allowed to become real dragons. Tohru freaks out as well, because she doesn’t know if Hatori needs salt water or fresh water.

In the time that Hatori passed out, we get a flashback about his memories with Kana. She was his spring. He fell in love, she fell in love with him. And she found out. And even so, she wanted to be with him. He felt like he was forgiven for something, and the dream continued. He was just happy.

The end of the dream. Akito was informed that they would marry. Akito got so mad, that he smashed a vase in Hatori’s eye.

Akito kept yelling at Kana that it was her fault if Hatori’s eye got blind. She was useless, she couldn’t get rid of the curse, she is useless, it’s her fault. If someone yells this at you, you even can believe it. And that’s the point when Kana’s soul got torn into pieces. Akito forced Hatori to erase her memory. But even so, it was done in a soft, manipulating way. It’s too scary to see.

Shigure comes by to pick Tohru up, and Tohru keeps wondering if it’s right for her to know about it. She saw Akito, and she was just scared as well. It was nice to see. This episode was so much drama, after seeing it so many time, it can still make me cry.

Fruits Basket 7 - Humans are just like onigiris^^

The school festival. The class of Tohru has permission to open a onigiri shop. Somehow the life of Tohru is filled with riceballs.^^. She’s going to make them, Yuki came with a good idea, Kyou came with a bad idea. Kyou envies Yuki because he is in everything better then Kyou is. Yuki envies Kyou because Kyou is the kind of people that can socialize. They want to be each other.
We also know that cats like Kyou. Dogs like Shigure. Mices like Yuki. We can only imagine what’s it like to be with Kagura in a forest and with some boars.^^.

At home, Tohru makes up the most wonderfull theory with humans as onigiris. Once again, we find out that she loves onigiris. She says that everybody’s quality can be compared with an umeboshi. But that umeboshi is on the back of an onigiri, so the onigiri self can’t see it. But he can see other umeboshi’s, of other persons. And that’s why umeboshi’s envie each other, because they don’t know that they have an umeboshi themselves.^^ Kyou got the idea and was too cute to be true, it was too sweet.

The next day. Yuki dies in embarrassment. How come? He has to wear this well… interesting looking dress. Let’s put it bluntly: He looks like a girl. He single handed attracked all the custumors, but he can’t look at Tohru because he can’t handle the shame. Kyou laughs a bit about it. The fun really starts when this kid bumps in:

Souma Momiji. The cousin of Kyou and Yuki. Why he is here we don’t know, but this kid isn’t alone.

Souma Hatori. Cousin as well. He is a docter, and because Yuki skipped his monthly check up, Hatori has to come to check on him. Yuki has a weak bronchi, and he used to have attacks. As we can see, Yuki isn’t fond of Hatori. This is because the time when Yuki’s secret was exposed, Hatori erased all the memories. Yuki is scared to death that Tohru might have the same fate. Hatori claims that he won’t do that untill Akito gives him the sign. Hatori is also here to act as a guardian, but he lacks off. What happens?

That. Of course. Yuki had the most brilliant solution ever, when the rest flighted to the roof. Momiji was punished, and they all left. Yuki came by later and we have the nicest scene ever between Tohru and Yuki. He was comforted by her and that was too nice to see. He warns Tohru for Hatori, but one second later she is invited by him at home to have a little chat. About what? Wait and see.^^
