Wolf’s Rain review - 45/100

Just a moment ago I finished this anime. An interesting note with that is that I started to watch this in Februar. It’s August by now. That means it took me half a year to get to watch it. And don’t get me wrong, this is not due to the problem of slow subbers. No, it’s because I couldn’t watch more then 3 episodes in the month. This month I have the record of 10 episodes. Hoorray for me. Anyway, the side note. Wolf’s Rain is well, you could call it quite interesting. The plot is something weird as well. According to this anime, humans are born out of wolfs. Yes. Wolfs are supposed to be death for 200 years, and there was no survival. Yes. But wait, there are! Those wolfs that are remained left, are heading for Paradise. A place only wolfs can open. Yes. With those quest, they need a Flower Girl (once again, Yes), that can talk and can sing and looks just like a human. Oh btw, wolfs are deceiving humans. Every wolf in this anime has two artstyles: One human, and one wolf. Then I keep on wondering.. How on earth this those wolfs get those shoes? If they are in the wolf form, do they have the shoes left? Because when they turn back, they have the shoes. But they don’t when they are wolfs. Just a small note. This may look good on paper, but this anime fails and fails.

The biggest problem in this anime is that the creators tried to experiment with the word ‘coincidence’. People or wolfs keep on running in to each other with NO reason at all. And this happens every episode, at least 5 times. And the fun continues! The creators meant all this horse crap serious. Even the lovers. This even becomes laughable at one moment, the legendary scene of a beautiful woman and a beautiful men running around happily in a flowerfeild. And this is meant serious. I don’t know if anyone here has ever watched Excel Saga? Well, watch that before you watch this because it will make this anime a lot more fun.^^ (I talk about episode 22, with the alien that reminded Hyatt when they were small, the same thing, only meant serious.) I would also like to know how on earth those wolfs can jump a distance of 30 meters without any problem. If anyone has the answer, please tell me.^^ Those wolfs are just as fast when they are running for like a month, without much food and drink, and they are moving just as fast as the space ships of the badguys. Yeah. There are a lot of mistakes in this anime. Wolfs get shot for really no reason and the next episode they are just as jumpy as always and like nothing happened. For one example.

And I haven’t even started about the predictability-level of this anime. Every episode you know what’s going to happen. At least 5 minutes before it actually happens. This can be a lot of fun, I have to say that. Episode 11 really made it laugh by it, that was the worst.

Also, the main characters. We have the lonely silent though dude, of course the annoying little brat (that really annoyed the hell out of me with his whining), the carefree guy and the punk. All of them are stupid enough to take the flower girl that needs water and light to survive to the ’Forest of Death’ (corny, isn’t it?), a place that has no water and no light, and are suprised afterwords that she almost died. That was the most stupid scene ever. And don’t get me started about the giant half blinded Walrus and the annoying know-it-all Owl. That was .. stupid. The side characters are interesting as well, an old man with a dog that hunts for wolfs because he hates them. The ironic part is that his dog is in fact, a wolf. Of course. We also have the work-a-holic woman and the divorced man of her. Duuuh. The reason that I couldn’t watch more then 3 episodes in the month is because of the old man because he can give me headache with his whining and drinking.

O btw, this anime has the record of not one, not two, not three, but 4 frigging recap episode. I really recommend to anyone to skip episode 15 untill episode 19. Or, start to watch episode 15 and skip the frigging rest that went before it. You won’t miss anything. Then the fun and the drama continues. The drama is btw really heavy, but it is so stupid sometimes that I really laugh about it.

But I have to say that when episode 27 comes that everything takes a weird turn. My explination for it is that the creators finally realised that every character had to die at least one time in the anime because he got hurt or shot or something, and the creators try to make up for it to kill off more then the half of the cast. For really no reason at all. That was also interesting. Episode 27, 28 and 29 are better written then the rest, untill you slap yourself on the forehead once again because you find out the direction the anime is going for the end. That is the most corny end ever.

Another small notes, this is a high-budget anime. The art looks nice, the music is nice. But I have to get over the scene where two parties killed of eachother and the last guy standing was killed by an armoury. Or so it looked. There are a lot of more mistakes during this anime, but I won’t name them all. I recommend this anime for one that wants to critize an anime, and for one that likes highlighted anime. And for one that is bored.

I have some thoughts about this when I saw it. One: Damn it was short. Two: Hm, it looks a bit like Mahou Shoujotai. And Mahou Shoujotai is great, so I have high expectations of this anime. This is the flash anime, and it only goes around for 4 minutes. With the themesong included. Without the themesong, only two and a half minute. That’s short. It really is. The pace is great, nice and fast, and I like it. I also like the flash, only I have to say that the close ups don’t work. Furthermore I can’t complain. This could be potentional to get great so..

The maincharacter is someone that I can’t say anything about yet. The only thing I know for certain that episode two will be great and that this is a war anime. I’m going to watch it further.
