Tsubasa Chronicle 40 - Kurogane

This was great. This was a totally Kurogane episode, telling what his youth was like. We begin this with the voice of Syoaran, saying that he read the past of someone he knew. We already knew that Kurogane lived in some kind of old Japan. Monsters were trying to pass the border. In order to protect the country, the mother of Kurogane had sent with magic a barrier. But, this wasn’t too great for her health, and the barrier wasn’t perfect. So, the father of Kurogane sometimes had to go, and slayed the monsters that passed the border.

Kurogane was a wonderful energic kid. He loved his mother and tried to help her with everything he could, even though he was a small kid. He loved his father of well, but his love of his mother really was great. He even thought sometimes as his father as a rival. But even so, his fathers teaches him to become stronger. Kurogane wants to become stronger to protect everyone in the country and to protect his mother. And he goes stronger by day and by day.

This goes by, untill the day comes that his father has faced a really strong monster. Appearently, it can turn you to stone. The father comes back injured, and takes the holy treasure of the family, a sword. Kurogane’s mother gives another protection for it, even though this wasn’t good for her body. She wants to pray as well, but she fails. A hand with a sword kill her. I think this might be the will of the gods and that they tell her that she is finished. Kurogane sees this and he is too shocked to be true. The border is failing, and the monsters are coming to the town. Then, he sees a monster. With a hand in his mouth. The hand was clinging on a sword. His father sword. After seeing that both his parents are murdered during one night, he goes berserk. And he slays them all, but he stays in a rage, clunching to his mothers body and not letting anyone goes near her. I have to say, this was all too sad.

Then, the Tomoyo and her older sister arrive. They want to take Kurogane to the court, maybe for a samurai job or something. But so, Kurogane has still lost himself. Tomoyo helps him, and gets his conscienceness back. Saying that he must let his mother rest. Kurogane started to cry.

And we skip to Syoaran. Syoaran was in a libary with the rest of the bunch, reading the book. The book of Kuroganes past. And he was too shocked, and started to cry. I can understand, I had also some problems with this. He is in a trance, and when Kurogane touches the book, Syoaran loses his balance and fails, still crying. That was great to see as well, we get the perfect ending for this.

Kurogane begins to rise in my sympathy. We also now know the reason for him to fight. I think that he was so fighty the time he was with Tomoyo, that he wanted just to become stronger. Maybe he thought that his parents got back this way. It’s just all to sad, and maybe that’s the reason for Tomoyo to send him to Yuuko. It’s still weird that we get to see this only after 40 episodes, but well, this is Tsubasa Chronicle. Tsubasa Chronicle has really proven itself today as one amazing anime.
