Versus Virus Venus review - 41/100

Venus Versus Virus is an anime who tries to lure me in with a cool first episode and a cool ED. I have never been so lured into an anime as this one. The first episode was pretty good, and after that you start to hope that it eventually will get better and it will be as good as you expected it to be. But. After a couple of episode you’ll just realise that you have been lured into the anime. There are two things you can do after that conclusion: Drop it, or blog it and have some fun. I have chosen for the blog it option. Because how hard I had to laugh over all the silly stupid events in this anime.
Anyway. This anime is about two girls who are fighting demons that you call Virusses. They are just really evil and need to get killed. The one girl is a real cool girl, without many emotions and she is just cool and harsh. She has a flashlight eye (really! It glows in the dark!) and has a horrible past because of her flashlight eye. Her name is Luchia. After a couple of years of fighting those evil Virusses, something happens and a new girl is introduced: Sumire. Sumire has no spine, whines about everything, has the most annoying friends ever, cries every episode, is scared to death every episode, doesn’t even notice when she almost is murdered by the badguys and she has an evil alterego. When she is shot by an anti-Virus bullet she becomes so evil that she can’t control herself and just wants to kill everyone in her path. That is a nice contrast, and it can work nice on paper.
But. It doesn’t work in the anime. We see Sumire whine about every little event for the first half of the anime and she was so annoying that I almost wanted to twist her neck. She keeps on wondering why this happened to her and bla bla bla. Really annoying. I kept on hoping that she would succeed in growing a spine (she did one episode! But the episode after, she was the same as ever) but unfortunally she didn’t. In fact, the creators gave all their attention to Luchia, a character who was perfectly fine, but they softened her a numberous times. A big mistake. What I would love to see is Sumire in her Berserker mode attacking Luchia and the two of them fighting. We never really saw that one. Unfortunally.
And don’t even get me started about the things you can predict in this anime. I predicted 4 episodes before the conclusion what the plot was going to be and I was right as well! I suck at predicting things so I was really taken back by laugther when I saw that bullshit. Further has this anime a lot of actions that really unnecesarry. For one example, the badguy and one of the goodguys meet in a busy shopping street. One second later they are in a deserted building, overdramatically holding a conversation. There are a lot of stupid deaths in this anime, for one example the minute that Sumire killed a Virus that had possessed a girl of her school. The second after that when her boyfriend hold her once again she completly forgot about that one. The most stupid action will remain that Luchia somehow in one year succeeded to age two years. Yes she did. And god, how stupid was that. And of course, you can already see it in the badguy. He is also pictured in this review. Who on earth would want evil glowing eyes? In fact, in every serious anime that is stupid. But with two different colors.. ^^..
If you ignore Sumire a couple of times and don’t watch her friends at all, this anime is hilarious. It sucks in many ways, but it is so bad, that it becomes really great to see. I recommend this to everyone who wants to critizise an anime, or to a couple of sarcastic friends. It is a great laugh. Because it isn’t meant to be laughable.
