Bakumatsu Kikansetsu Irohanihoheto review - 80/100

Bakumatsu Kikansetsu Irohanihoheto is just as the name says: hard to understand. I had a real problem to understand all the difficult dialogues in this anime, and even when it was subbed. Later in the anime I began to see a line in the dialogues and I wasn’t bothered by it at all. In fact, the weird, unable to understandable dialogue, is the worst point of Bakumatsu.
Bakumatsu is an history anime, that takes place in the 19th century, when the land opened its boundaries to other countries. We follow the life of a talented samurai, Akidzuki. And here is the point that this anime takes another turn from the history. We have the an evil Head, the Head of the Lord, that is possessing people for a nationalistic revolution. This Lords Head can be described as a phantom, of a guy who was killed a long time ago. Akidzuki has to kill this phantom and is searching this head. Meanwhile, we follow a theater group who is out on revenge.
I think one of the best points of this anime that you can’t really tell in the beginning who is evil and who is good. The guys who seemed to be good, appear to be the real badguys in the end of the anime. The evil guys are really well made (except for Jubei. He was just annoying) and their motives are all really well worked out. I loved to see Kanna and he jumped from the one side to the other, and of course Sousetsu.
Despite the not understandable dialogues, I enjoyed watching this anime. It is really cultural. That may sound weird, but I love to see different cultures, and with this war periode and also the Japanese theater (Oh, how I adored that!), I never caught myself annoyed when I watched this. You just watch because you want to see what happens, and what the not-understandable parts really are. And because of the art, and the music. The music is one of the best I have recently heard. These creators aren’t afraid to kill one or two characters off the cast, but all this is so really thought out that it almost made me cry.
The other problem with this anime is that you can’t really describe what happens in this anime or review it, because you can spoil this anime with that. I recommend this anime to anyone who isn’t afraid of cultures, and thinks that the dialogues aren’t a problem for him or her.

ps. Yes. I know. I haven’t updated in ages. This last month of school is the most important one, it can decide if I have to leave my school (I can’t double my class again) or that I can go to my final year. In one more week or two, it will all be over. A major update can be expected.:)
